Weatherization

Make your home more comfortable and save energy

Seal air leaks, improve insulation, and qualify for rebates that can significantly lower your energy costs.

Puget Sound Energy rebates can cover up to 60–70% of typical weatherization project costs!

  • Weatherization helps make your home more comfortable and energy-efficient, making it less expensive to heat or cool. It can include:

    • Sealing air leaks in attics, walls, and around windows

    • Adding or upgrading insulation

    • Improving ventilation and indoor air quality

  • Weatherization keeps the air you pay for inside your home. Most homes lose heated and cooled air through small gaps and poor insulation—especially in attics and crawlspaces.

Improvements like air sealing and insulation make your home more comfortable, reduce drafts, and help lower your energy bills. They can also improve indoor air quality and reduce your carbon footprint by cutting overall energy use.

    1. Schedule an assessment
A contractor evaluates your home’s insulation and air leaks.

    2. Get recommendations + rebates
You’ll see what upgrades make sense—and what incentives apply.

    3. Complete your upgrades
Your contractor does the work and applies rebates directly.

  • To qualify for PSE’s weatherization rebates:

    1. You must be a PSE residential customer and use PSE electricity or natural gas as your heating source

    2. Your home must be a single-family home, a manufactured/mobile home, or a small multi-unit property (4 units or fewer).

    3. You must use a PSE-approved contractor. DIY projects or non-approved contractors do not qualify.

    4. Your home must also meet age requirements—built before 1989 (site-built homes) or before 2000 (manufactured homes).

  • Your savings will depend on your home and its current condition, but weatherization can noticeably lower heating and cooling costs. The U.S. Department of Energy reports that upgrades like air sealing and insulation typically cut energy use by 10–20%, with some homes achieving even higher savings. On average, households may save about $200–$400 per year on energy bills.

  • Weatherization is often the first step before installing a heat pump. It helps your system run more efficiently and can reduce upfront costs. Benefits can include:

    • Lower system size needed

    • Better comfort

    • Lower long-term energy costs
