Heat pumps can lower energy costs, though the savings depend on what system you’re replacing.
If you’re replacing a gas furnace, you can typically expect modest heating savings of around 10–15%. However, because a heat pump also provides efficient air conditioning in the summer, many households find their overall annual energy spending stays about the same while gaining year-round comfort.
If you’re replacing electric resistance heating (like baseboards), the savings are much larger—often 50% or more on heating costs. And if you currently rely on portable air conditioners, a heat pump’s high efficiency can reduce cooling-related energy use by roughly 25% or more.
You can find full income and product eligibility requirements in the Program Guidelines.
